Find an Ombudsman to Assist With Disgruntled Nursing Home Services in LA
Many seniors dread the thought of having to be institutionalized in a nursing home or other type of long-term care facility. Rightly so, after so many incidents of mistreatment, neglect or mismanagement at many of these facilities. There are also many excellent long term care centers for seniors in Louisiana, but if an elderly person is still able to get around well with some assistance, then it might be better to choose a CARE, INC caregiver to come to their home. The senior is able to keep some of their independence and dignity, rather than being subjected to the lifestyle of a boarding home.
Under the “Federal Older Americans Act”, the Ombudsman is an appointed public advocate who addresses complaints or a violation of the senior’s rights. An Ombudsman has official duties just like any other public advocate and is appointed by the state, Parish or municipality of his/her territory.
When would you call an ombudsman in Louisiana?
To handle complaints for a loved one in assisted living or long-term care institutionsTo learn about the rights of seniors or proper care practicesTo volunteer for the advocacy of seniors
A Louisiana ombudsman also gives up-to-date information to the public on the rights of residents, as well as providing any current news on laws and policy changes. That person will help clients who want to stay home with a caregiver instead of being forced into an intuition against their will. The job of an ombudsman falls in line with social work, although it can be rewarding to have this person as your defense against nursing home wrongdoings or neglect against elderly people.
On this page, you will find state agencies, citizen advocacy representatives and ombudsman for each Parish or territory in Louisiana. The National Long Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center is a consumer voice to help people who are or have been treated unfairly.
