National Wellness Month

August is National Wellness Month. Make sure the senior in your life is staying healthy by helping them incorporate healthy eating, regular exercise, and more. Supporting their mental, physical and emotional wellness is important and starts with you!

Stimulate the Mind

Keep your loved one’s mind stimulated, body active and help him/her maintain health socially too! Connect with your loved ones through card games, simple board games, take them to their favorite restaurant, and/or run a quick errand.

Exercise Regularly

Even if it is just a walk when you go to visit them, keep the senior in your life active. Fresh environments and a change of scenery can help mood and circulation too!

Get Screening Tests

As we age, our bodies change frequently. Make sure your loved one gets the following screening tests: Blood Pressure Test (At least every year) and Cholesterol Test (Every 3-5 years depending on results). Ask their primary physician for more information.

Drink More Water

Why? Water lubricates joints and helps to transport nutrients for energy and health as we age. Make sure you and your loved one are drinking water frequently throughout the day.

Protect the Eyes

Wear sunglasses when you are outside and make sure your family members do too. If you work at a computer or are constantly staring at a mobile device, it is important to take a break. Look away from your screen every 20 minutes to give your eyes a break. And, don’t forget to get annual eye exams.
